| All I can say is WOW. Helluva fire, Helluva job by all on scene.Glad I'm not picking up the almost 10,000' of 5" supply line laying on the ground. One lay was approx 6000' from Cheyney & Glenn Mills into the scene, another lay was at least 2500' to a pond in the rear of the property. I don't know how long the other lay was. Water problems initially due to distance, and hydrants on campus were not nearly enough to supply the massive need for this fire. 71-2 was drafting from a pond directly behind the fire bldgs. They had 5 hard sleeves connected to the front suction for the drafting operation. Who says drafting can't be done through a front suction!? I didn't get back to the other drafting operation. Numerous master streams in service, mostly aerial devices. A couple handlines in service later on in the fire from the exterior also. The wind was a big factor also. Blowing embers and master streams where ever it wanted to. I couldn't get to the "C" "D" corner until late in the fire due to the wind and water. The ground started icing up before I left. Both canteens also did a great job keeping everyone fed and hydrated. |
