West Philadelphia had a busy night. This is one of four jobs in the west this night. 2 story twin, 16 x 45, 2nd floor fully involved with extension to the "B" exposure 2nd floor. Originally dispatched as a tactical box. Battalion-11 requested the box to be filled out and all hands to go to work. Ladder-13 was the assigned R.I.T. B/C-1 Had heavy fire from a large car crusher. Placed all hands in svc with master streams and handlines. Fire was placed under in approx 40 mins. FCC advised B/C-1 that he had 5 engines with 2 being pipelines dispatched on the original box due to calls. 5 engines, 2 ladders, squad-47, Ladder-4 for the R.I.T. Collapse of front cornice and collapse in the rear. Initially had heavy fire 1st floor with extension to the 2nd floor and thru the roof. Secondary search discovered an elderly female DOA. the rear. Battalion-9 had the River box respond for evacuations along the Schuylkill River @ River rd & Shawmont ave. Approx 30 homes and mobile homes were evacuated to the Shawmont school, 2 elderly residents were transported to the hospital. Police were on scene for a stabbing, had a male perp barricaded in the house. Male set fire to the house. B/c-11 placed 2&2 in svc once he could gain entry. Male perp was transported to H.U.P. as a code blue, burns to the face and smoke inhalation, unstable vitals. unk cond of stabbing victim. Fire knocked and placed under control in apprx 5 mins once entry was gained. Eng's 41 & sqt-57, Lad's 24&6, Lad-13 for the R.i.t. While responding to a call, Ladder-13 struck another vehicle, then went into the front of a corner store. The driver of the struck car was DOA. 5 Firefighters and 3 other civilians were also injured. Tanker truck loaded to capacity rolls over at Bartram & Island. Contents leaking from 2 compartment hatches, into the sewer system. At the time these pictures were posted, a number wasn't put on the size of the spillage, nor had it been reported on where the system lead to. B/C-11 had fire in a trash compactor at ground level and in the chute on the 12th floor. The M.I.R.A. Box was struck and all hands were placed in svc. 2 add'l medic units were requested above the 2 on the assignment. Crews were placed in svc for fire extinguishment as well as rescue & ventilation. The upper floors of the bldg were being evacuated due to heavy smoke conditions. Several residents were treated on scene with 1 resident being transported for smoke inhalation, believed to be minor. Battalion-11 had heavy fire thru the roof of a 3 story stand alone. He placed all hands in service with master streams for an exterior attack. Once the bulk of the fire was knocked, master streams were shut down and crews entered the bldg to extinguish hot spots and perform overhaul. After the fire was placed under control & the assignment reduced to 2 & 2, A partial roof collapse occurred, coming down on top of members from piplene-5 & Ladder-6. The R.I.T. was put to work along with Squad-47 & Rescue-1 to rescue the trapped members. Deputy-1 ordered the full box to be re-dispatched with an additional R.I.T. 2 Members were transported to H.U.P. with minor injuries to the neck and back. Fortunately no one was seriously injured. Companies operated with an interior attack for a short time until it was realized the fire had gotten above the cieling and was travelling the roof. 1 and 2 story auto body shop and furniture wharehouse approx 75 x 1 city block. 6 Alarm fire, 11th & Spruce @ the old Lowes Hotel. Looking at picture labeled as #35, I see a fireman wearing a helmet, left top. In the picture labeled as #11, The window on the top floor fully engulfed with fire was occupied by the firefighters you see on the level just below that, just seconds before. I believe they are members of Engine-1. The date I know is incorrect but close.
